Everything began with a simple question: how can young migrants make sense of the overwhelming flow of information they face every day?
From this question, four organisations from France, Spain, Poland and Türkiye decided to join forces to create a space where critical thinking could become a tool for empowerment.

The context

Across Europe, thousands of young migrants are trying to find their place in new societies — facing disinformation, stereotypes, and unequal access to education. This project was born from the belief that learning to question, to analyse and to think critically can be a powerful way to participate more actively in one’s community.

The goal

Our aim is to strengthen critical thinking and media literacy skills among young migrants and the youth workers who support them.
We want to help them recognise biases, verify information, and express their ideas with confidence — so that they can make informed decisions and contribute to more open, inclusive communities.

The partners

• Rakonto (France) – coordinator of the project, specialised in storytelling and non-formal education.
• Innetica (Spain) – experts in education, social innovation and digital tools.
• Logos Polska (Poland) – a long-term promoter of critical thinking and media literacy.
• Kepder (Türkiye) – experienced in working with young people and newcomer migrants.

Together, they designed a project that moves step by step, from research to action.

The kick-off of this event took place in Pau in June 2024. It was the perfect opportunity to get to know our partners, strengthen bonds within the project team, and explore a new city together. Rakonto is responsible for coordinating the project, which involves managing the various organizations involved.

During these two days of meetings, we thoroughly reviewed all aspects of the project to align ourselves with our common goals. We also began developing the Good practice manual to ensure smooth communication and promote the overall well-being and success of the project's future missions.

Together, we allocated responsibilities among partners and planned our next steps. This friendly moment truly marked a positive and enthusiastic start for the project.

Then came the heart of the project: the Good Practice Manual.
Each partner contributed their experience in working with young migrants to develop a collection of activities, tools and methods for teaching critical thinking through non-formal education.
The manual includes practical workshops, creative exercises, and tips for youth workers who want to help participants analyse information, express opinions and debate respectfully.

It was designed not as a theoretical publication, but as a living resource — something that can be adapted to different contexts. The manual is now freely available online, translated into English, French, Spanish, Polish and Turkish, along with an interactive PDF including videos and links for educators.

In April 2025, the partners reunited in Bursa, Türkiye, for a one-week training course with sixteen youth-migrant workers from the four countries.
The aim was to test the tools developed in the manual and to exchange good practices face to face.

Through debates, group challenges and creative sessions, participants explored how to encourage young migrants to think critically — not only about the information they consume but also about their own experiences and the societies they live in.

It was a week full of discovery and reflection. Some activities worked perfectly; others needed adaptation. But this is precisely what non-formal education is about — learning by doing, sharing, and improving together.

The project is now reaching its final stage, and we are sharing what we are learning.
This November, each partner is organising dissemination events to present the results and celebrate the journey.

In Pau, Rakonto organised two differents events :

• Critical Thinking Workshop – Wednesday 12 November at 14:00, at the Résidence Habitat Jeunes, Rue Michel Hounau.
• Evening Event – Thursday 13 November from 19:00, in the same residence, with stories, discussions and a few surprises.
